Art and Craft
The Art and Craft department is committed to the making and understanding of contemporary art by cultivating specialist activities within a transdisciplinary environment. Our BFA and MFA study programmes encompass medium and material-based artistic practice in Textile, Ceramics, Print and Drawing, Metal and Jewellery. The department also offers an MFA Programme in Medium- and Material Based Art.

MFA in Art and Public Space
The MFA in Art and Public Space is two-year master programme. The main focus is in challenging the contemporary art practice as a critical spatial practice in relationship to the public space providing platform for new social and political encounters.

The programme supply for a critical and analytical setting in which artists and others with a professional commitment to the arts can develop the means for an appraisal of the contemporary implications and actual significance of their work. It is a fuse of professional practice, progressive pedagogy, collaborative social engagement, and transdisciplinary exploration that produces an immersive educational environment. The programme actively encourages students to develop their practice through various methods of research and analytical thinking, as well as practical engagement with sites and situations found in our society today.

The program offers students the opportunity to collaborate in ongoing projects and partnerships across the city and abroad. During the two years of study, students are asked to produce a public lecture that surveys their work in the program, a public graduate thesis project, an in-depth written text exploring a relevant connection to their practice.

During each academic year, the faculty in cooperation with the students produce the public program that hosts a series of lectures, debates or events by relevant professionals in the field.
 

Oslo National Academy of the Arts is Norway’s largest college of higher education in the field of visual and performing art with over 550 students and currently offers 24 study programmes in six departments: Art and Craft, Design, The Academy of Fine Art, The Academy of Dance, The Academy of Opera, and The Academy of Theatre.

Oslo National Academy of the Arts is a public state funded institution with no tuition fee for students.
