We are very pleased to be exhibiting at both Frieze and Frieze Masters again this year.To coincide with our current exhibition, THE ART OF DANSAEKHWA, at Kukje Gallery we are thrilled to present a focused project with Ha Chong-Hyun at Frieze Masters.
Dansaekhwa, which in Korean means “monochrome painting,” describes a historical art movement begun in the 1960s that expressed radical social ideals through nontraditional approaches to monochromatic painting. Capturing the tumult of postwar Korea and underlining the nascent intersection of the East and West in contemporary art, Dansaekwha artists are of vital historical interest.
No artist better exemplifies the synthesis of material mastery and philosophical exploration than Ha Chong-Hyun. The subject of many national and international exhibitions, Ha was the subject of a major retrospective at the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Gwacheon, Korea in 2012.
At Frieze we will showcase new commissioned sculptures by Haegue Yang in addition to superlative contemporary works by Ghada Amer, Cecily Brown, Gimhongsok, Kyungah Ham, Michael Joo, Julian Opie, Damian Ortega, Kibong Rhee, Yeesookyung and Aaron Young.
