Applications now open for Hong Kong’s exciting new contemporary art fair
Art Central is Hong Kong’s exciting new art fair, showcasing the next generation of talent alongside some of the most established contemporary galleries and art spaces from across the globe.
Launched by the founders of ART HK, and co-directed by Eve Share Banghart (Art Basel, ART HK and Gagosian Gallery) and Maree Di Pasquale (Melbourne Art Fair, Sydney Contemporary and Abu Dhabi Art Fair), Art Central debuts 14 to 16 March 2015 (VIP preview 13 March 2015) to coincide with Art Basel’s Hong Kong edition.
Since ART HK’s launch seven years ago, Hong Kong has firmly cemented itself as Asia’s art hub. Hong Kong is now the third largest auction market after New York and London. Zero tax on the import and export of art and established collectors from all over the Asia-Pacific region provide the foundation for Hong Kong’s thriving gallery scene. World-class international galleries such as Gagosian, White Cube, Simon Lee Gallery, and Lehmann Maupin are members of the 51-strong Hong Kong Gallery Association, having opened exhibition spaces in Hong Kong to take advantage of the growing Asian market. The rapid development of the M+ museum of visual culture in Hong Kong and the launch of Art Basel in 2013 further contribute to Hong Kong’s fast-growing art market. The addition of Art Central to Hong Kong’s art scene is testament to the dynamism of the market.
The fair will give over 90 leading international galleries access to the best of the art world, including the collectors, curators, and other art professionals who are in town for the most dynamic week in Hong Kong’s contemporary art calendar.
Staged in a specially commissioned, purpose-built tent on the new Central Harbour Front, Art Central is conveniently located less than 2 kilometers from the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, where Art Basel takes place.
Applications to Art Central are open to both emerging and established galleries with true artist representation that hold regular exhibitions on their own business premises, within external project spaces, or in the virtual space. Galleries are invited to apply under three specialised sectors:
Central presents established and emerging galleries from Asia and beyond exhibiting a diverse range of artists and strong curatorial themes through solo and group presentations.
Rise presents galleries and art spaces launched in the past five years who have a physical, online or temporary presence. Galleries in this sector are invited to exhibit a curated solo or dual presentation by emerging artists as well as artists working within emerging markets.
Ink presents galleries specialising in contemporary ink painting or working with contemporary ink artists. This sector aims to bring a new perspective to the Hong Kong art fair experience by providing an international platform for artists working in this medium.

Applications are to be completed online, and the deadline for submissions is Friday 7 November 2014.
