Frieze Talks is a daily program of lectures, film screenings, conversations, and panel discussions, that takes place at Frieze New York. Participants in Frieze Talks 2014 include: Masha Alekhina and Nadya Tolokonnikova of Pussy Riot / Zona Prava; Okwui Enwezor, Artistic Director of the 56th Venice Biennale; Kenneth Goldsmith, poet and author; Joshua Oppenheimer, director of The Act of Killing (2012); and Adam Szymczyk, Artistic Director of dOCUMENTA (14).

Bringing together leading artists, writers, and cultural commentators, Frieze Talks 2014 is curated by Tom Eccles (Executive Director of the Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard College) and Christy Lange (Associate Editor, frieze).

The program broadens debates beyond the visual arts, exploring themes in politics, writing, film and music. Masha Alekhina and Nadya Tolokonnikova of Pussy Riot will speak to the editor of The New Yorker David Remnick about their membership in the feminist art collective Pussy Riot and their recently launched NGO, Zona Prava, which advocates for prisoners’ rights; Beatrix Ruf, newly appointed Director of Amsterdam’s Stedelijk Museum will be in conversation with artists Helen Marten and Jordan Wolfson; and the poet Kenneth Goldsmith will deliver a keynote lecture.

Other highlights include a panel discussion on the history of art and the Internet, chaired by the writer Orit Gat; and the final day of the fair will be dedicated to a special screening of Joshua Oppenheimer’s The Act of Killing (the Director’s Cut), followed by a discussion of the aesthetic and ethical implications of the film with Oppenheimer, Thomas Keenan (Director of the Human Rights Program at Bard College) and Dana Stevens (film critic for Slate and co-host of the Slate Culture Gabfest podcast).
