The Armory Show 2014, in its sixteenth edition, will host over 200 galleries from 29 countries exhibiting an array of significant modern and contemporary works. Taking place March 6–9, the fair will coincide with the opening of the Whitney Biennial, further establishing March in New York as a key moment on the art world calendar. In line with its mission of providing an intelligent, dynamic platform for international galleries, The Armory Show has devoted a special section of Pier 94 to Focus: China comprised of galleries from the Mainland and Hong Kong. The fair will also launch the inaugural edition of Armory Presents. In its commitment to connoisseurship, The Armory Show–Modern has established a formal Selection Committee of leading dealers and will present its first ever curated exhibition of seminal drawings by female artists of the twentieth century.

Venus Drawn Out: 20th-Century Works by Great Women Artists
Curated by Susan Harris, this exhibition is the first curated project to take place on Pier 92 and will focus exclusively on drawings made by female visionaries in the twentieth century.
Armory Presents
This year marks the inaugural edition of Armory Presents, a section of the fair dedicated to solo and dual artist presentations by galleries less than ten years old.
2014 Armory commissioned artist
In honor of Armory Focus: China, Xu Zhen was selected to help create the fair’s graphic identity through printed ephemera and a specially commissioned limited edition work titled Currency’s Ideal, with proceeds benefiting MoMA. Xu Zhen, a “chameleon of concept,” has built an extensive body of work that includes video, installation, performance, and photography. From theatrical merry pranks to quieter works playing on human sensitivity, Xu Zhen has developed a repertoire confronting social-political taboos within the context of contemporary China and beyond.
Open Forum
This thought-provoking series of conversations and panels is organized by Isolde Brielmaier; New York-based curator, writer, project consultant and Visiting Professor, Tisch School of the Arts, NYU. The program features noteworthy roundtables that address artist publishing, the role of women artists within today’s market, and the status of biennials.
“The China Symposium”
Generously supported by Adrian Cheng and the K11 Art Foundation, “The China Symposium” will assemble speakers from around China and beyond, including leading artists, journalists, curators, collectors, gallerists, and academics. The first day of the forum explores circumstances and dynamics shaping the external environment, while the second day looks at significant currents in art itself. Together the two days offer perhaps the most comprehensive overview of the art scene in China yet undertaken for a general New York audience.
