The project “Public Art Experience” is an innovative way of combining art and knowledge. This important international project deals with the place of art in contemporary society. Its location is Belval, a historic industrial site in the south of Luxembourg, which now hosts the “City of Science” as part of a new urban district developed around former blast furnaces.
“Transformation” is the theme chosen for the first launch of “Public Art Experience.” This theme resonates with the transformation that is visible in Belval, it echoes the passage from industrial capitalism to the capitalism of the knowledge society. Thus it provides the opportunity to ponder the meaning of art as an individual and a collective experience.
The artistic director in residence will conceptualize the whole programme relating different individual projects to be carried out in residence to the theme of “transformation.” Following a call for candidates, the artistic director will, on the advice of the artistic council, choose the artist and researchers in residence. The artistic director will involve the general public in the programme and will cooperate closely with the artistic council of “Public Art Experience.”
Candidate profile:
–Experience in organizing exhibitions and colloquia, in supporting and managing projects
