VIENNAFAIR The New Contemporary – Connecting art and people in a new way
From October 10 to 13, 2013, VIENNAFAIR The New Contemporary will highlight the innovative power of the Eastern and Southeastern European art and gallery scene in its main focus presentations. In combination with the participating galleries from the Western hemisphere, VIENNAFAIR The New Contemporary 2013 will showcase a varied spectrum of contemporary art production and an extensive visitors program for art collectors and lovers. One of this year’s special focuses lies on emerging artists from Poland.

Shifting the focus to new geographies and markets
The unique mix of international galleries will create an ideal context for a stimulating exchange of artistic approaches and the development of new markets. In addition to already established positions, a broad range of young and upcoming galleries—especially from the Eastern and Southeastern European focus regions—will participate in VIENNAFAIR The New Contemporary. In 2013 VIENNAFAIR The New Contemporary establishes a new network that completely redefines the notion of “East meets West” and offers art collectors, curators, and museum directors as well as people interested in art from all age groups an interesting platform for discussion, talks, performances, and participatory activities.

VIENNAFAIR The New Contemporary gives cultural institutions from Georgia, Kazakhstan, and Ukraine a forum for international contacts and the presentation of their program. The special project “DIYALOG”: New Energies will introduce current developmentsof young art institutions in Romania, Turkey, and the Caspian region. The photographer and curator Gaisha Madanova from Almaty, Kazakhstan and the artistic directors of VIENNAFAIR The New Contemporary, Christina Steinbrecher-Pfandt and Vita Zaman, curate this program in cooperation with OMV.

Reaching new audiences and collectors
A key objective for VIENNAFAIR The New Contemporary is to reach new buyers in the focus regions. To this end an extensive artistic program is being organized to enrich the fair experience for all visitors with presentations of a broad range of cutting-edge art topics in discussions, exhibitions, free artistic interventions, collaborations, and much more. The special project ZONE1 will offer a unique opportunity to become more familiar with the work of Austrian artists inexciting solo presentations. In its panel discussions and talks with representatives of the international art scene VIENNA Talks will showcase a wide spectrum of presentations, discussions, and debates. This year’s Talks provide an exciting and multifaceted platform for art professionals from different Eastern focus regions to represent their countries to the fullest and evidence the unique character of the region. To foster the development of new buyers and young collectors, Next Edition Partners will organize in cooperation with VIENNAFAIR The New Contemporary a series of intimate conversations with some of the outstanding collectors of contemporary art today: The forum 20 four 7 – Collecting The New Contemporary will highlight different models of building up a collection and concepts for working with the artworks.

Extensive visitor program with special exhibition, lectures, and information platforms
Besides VIENNA Family, VIENNA Gold, VIENNA Studio, and VIENNA Talks, other program points in the extensive visitors program are successively being further elaborated, such as VIENNA Click, VIENNA Duet, VIENNA Highlight, VIENNA Live, VIENNA Protest, VIENNA Pop – The School of Happiness, and VIENNA Sonic. They will present discussions with young artists, exciting performances by musicians and DJs, online platforms for contemporary art, and an international video art competition for art and film enthusiasts.
