The Michael Kohn Gallery is pleased to present a group exhibition focused on the aesthetic contemplation of mysticism in contemporary art practice. This exhibition brings to light a Grand Theme—an introspection and perceived reality when looking at works of art that explores the rich inner landscape of one’s consciousness. There is a strong strain of mysticism among some Californian artists working during the 1960s and ’70s, and this quality of allusiveness and poetic touch can also be found in some of the best artists working today, such as Fred Tomaselli, Vija Celmins and Bill Viola.
