Artistic directors: Christina Steinbrecher and Vita Zaman

Europe is changing and VIENNAFAIR The New Contemporary is changing with it. Already uniquely positioned since 2005 with a program focus on contemporary art from Central and Eastern Europe, the most dynamic and rapidly transforming territories of the continent, Vienna is now presenting The New Contemporary.

Vienna has for many years looked outwards and in unexpected directions, and invited the best of the world’s art and artists to be involved in Vienna’s cultural life. The New Contemporary reflects therefore the newness of young Europe and its associated dynamism, which isn’t regularly exhibited or represented within the mainstream of European art fairs and international exhibiting institutions.

Vienna boasts several of the world’s most renowned museums, a quarter dedicated to art, four precincts of the city filled with some of the leading international galleries: and an opera, orchestral and concert culture that is second to none. Vienna is the world capital of classical music. And now the VIENNAFAIR The New Contemporary is set to reinforce the city’s status of one of the world’s great capitals-of-culture and add to the city’s festival autumn spirit.

VIENNAFAIR The New Contemporary – Artistic Directors
VIENNAFAIR The New Contemporary is led by Christina Steinbrecher and Vita Zaman, two of the youngest and most dynamic artistic directors working in the field of contemporary art. Their vision and passion is to bring the newest and brightest of contemporary art and artists to VIENNAFAIR The New Contemporary and to make it an art fair experience like no other: what you will see in Vienna you won’t see anywhere else for years.

The New Contemporary is building on a solid foundation that also encompasses working with a number of Europe’s and Vienna’s best-known and most-established gallerists, galleries, and artists, as well as a diverse range of leading cultural agencies and professionals in the city. As such, VIENNAFAIR The New Contemporary is the fair, internationally, to experience contemporary art alongside new developments in art internationally.

Extensive visitor program with special exhibition, lectures, and information platforms
In addition to the presentations of the galleries, it is equally important to the artistic directors of VIENNAFAIR The New Contemporary to offer the public further information about the focus regions and also to initiate new cooperations between the individual art branches. For this purpose, VIENNAFAIR The New Contemporary offers an extensive supplementary program including a special exhibition, discussions, and a new online platform. The detailed program for Vienna Quintet, Vienna Talks, Vienna Sonic, and Vienna Click will be announced in August on www.viennafair.at.
