The Blank Residency is starting: the program of residencies for international artists and authors in Bergamo. From April the first project takes place in collaboration with Fondazione Banca Popolare di Bergamo, Accademia Carrara di Belle Arti and GAMeC – Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea.
THE BLANK ARTIST IN RESIDENCE – Fondazione Banca Popolare di Bergamo
The start up of the The Blank Residency is the first edition of The Blank Artist in
Residence – Fondazione Banca Popolare di Bergamo, which is characterized by the collaboration and the link to the museum GAMeC – Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, the Bergamo’s Accademia Carrara di Belle Arti, and the support of Fondazione Banca Popolare di Bergamo.
The artist selected for the first edition of the project is Remco Torenbosch (1982): his work was considered a catalyst which could encourage interaction through his artistic research and practice in line with the project aims and objectives.
The artist was selected for his capacity for exploring social and cultural processes, economic conventions and information sharing through the artistic process whilst being able to translate complexity through essential and minimal works.
Remco Torenbosch will stay and work for three months (April–June 2012) in Bergamo, in the accommodation and studio offered by The Blank, and he will be invited to interact with the communities and the institutions involved. During the residency period the artist will hold a workshop at the Accademia Carrara di Belle Arti involving students, an event at the Fondazione Banca Popolare’s spaces and a closing exhibition at GAMeC – Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea. At the end of the residency period the artist will donate a work to the Fondazione Banca Popolare di Bergamo.
The project is supported by Consulate general of the Netherlands in Milan and Netherlands Embassy in Rome.
THE BLANK RESIDENCY:
In 2011 the non-profit organization the Blank – Bergamo Contemporary Art initiated a program of artist residencies: The Blank Residency. The idea fits perfectly with the aims of spreading and widening passion for contemporary arts and related networking among institutions and people; among museums, arts academies, galleries, not-for-profit spaces and art professionals.
The association’s welcomes researchers and practitioners of contemporary art and aims to create connections with Italian and international institutions to facilitate the exchange of ideas and experiences, as well as sharing professional development and know how. The final aim of the program is to create an international network of residencies, which supports the networking of artists of all nationalities.
The project is curated by Stefano Raimondi, Paola Tognon, Elisabetta Brignoli and coordinated by Cristina Rota. The organization’s goal is to structure different residencies to provide hospitality for international artists and theoreticians over a medium-to-long term period. We do this by offering accommodation and facilitating relationships to develop artistic research, both practical and theoretical.
