German artist Sabine Boehl’s exhibition called “Rendering Infinity” can be viewed in Dirimart between January 12th to February 12th. In “Rendering Infinity”, Boehl intents to present a combination of her earlier works and the series called “How Many” prepared for Istanbul, with a brand new approach. Her recent compositions made of glass beads on canvas with her characteristic technique keep drawing attention from all over the world.
In her earlier works, Boehl uses typical ancient meanders and Islamic patterns combined with ornaments. In these compositions, sometimes forms and patterns meet with the figures, which are in movement or standstill. These figures can be either ordinary or appear mythical like Medusa.
With her “How Many” series, which she had made in the short period of time she spent in Istanbul, Boehl brings some texts to her canvas. Sentences like “How many colours are reflected by Bosporus?“, “How many rose petals left their spirit to be transformed into rose water?” and show homage to the city.
“Rendering Infinity” can be considered as an intersection of Boehl’s last two series.
This time her inspiration arises from the dynamic color scale of American expressionist Morris Louis and the way Ellsworth Kelly combines empty spaces with geometrical forms as well as traditional pattern technique of marbling.
Sabine Boehl transforms her paintings into the third dimension by sewing glass beads on canvas and generates kind of relief works. “Rendering Infinity” can be viewed throughout January 12th to February 12th in Dirimart.
