PULSE Miami will return to the Ice Palace December 2 – 5, 2010, for its sixth edition, the first with new Director Cornell DeWitt. PULSE Miami 2010 connects art enthusiasts to works by leading and emerging contemporary artists. This edition will also initiate a new emphasis on the city and culture of Miami marked by a special preview of the fair hosted by the Friends of the New World Symphony and featuring a live musical performance. Hilger modern/contemporary is pleased to present Sara Rahbar‘s newest works. According to Shaheen Merali, curator, Sara Rahbar’s works, with its nationalist coding and symbolism, allows the audience to be captivated by the dominance of the genre of information which structures the restricted field of patriotism. Connecting modernity to militaristic agency and the violated, cracked, conflictive ambivalence between the genders, it mesmerises us with the duality of belonging that consistently works within the vectors that modulate between the banality of evil and the erasure of life.

In creating this new body of work Sara Rahbar is looking at: war, religion, modern day terrorism and slavery and political and social issues. And in creating this series the artist is working with actual materials from history, from events from history, in order to strongly, efficiently and powerfully communicate that which she wishes to communicate. She is using materials such as: coins from the Shah period, buttons from soldier’s coats and jackets, army bags, flags, gun holders, emblems from Islam and Christianity, military patches, sickles and hammers. Sara Rahbar is using objects that clearly and powerfully convey the messages that she wishes to convey and tell the stories that she wishes to tell. Sara Rahbar is being featured in Robert Adanto’s new documentary “Pearls on the Ocean Floor”. The film examines the lives and works of Iranian female artists living and working in and outside the Islamic Republic.

Furthermore we will present the following artists:

Oliver Dorfer
Anastasia Khoroshilova
Ángel Marcos
Cameron Platter
Massimo Vitali
Lawrence Weiner
Andreas Leikauf
Michael Scoggins
Clifton Childree
