We are excited to announce that Transart Institute for Creative Research (TT) has recently joined Else Foundation as a consortium member and will be collaborating on various exhibitions, talks, panels, symposia, screenings, and performances that take place in locations that are as diverse as our communities. TT has also recently partnered with Western Sydney University WSU in offering new Doctor of Creative Arts and Doctor of Philosophy programs beginning July 2018.
ELSE Foundation (EF) is a consortium of independent global creative research institutions, projects and people with overlapping interests. Research areas include: temporary architecture, space and publicness; interstices, liminal states and the space in-between; international diaspora and exiled states; memory and the archive; home, nostalgia and the uncanny. Both TT and EF work trans-disciplinarily in any media or genre including design, curation, architecture, sound, performance, film, theory, visual arts, and text.
The fluid architecture of both EF and TT seeks to expand what creativity, learning, representation and socially engaged practices might mean in a deliquescent environment; where subjectivities collapse, viral networks bloom and blossom amidst unpredictable migratory flows. What role can creative thought and education play beyond engaging these discourses? How and where does education and practice walk with innovative thinkers and actors to imagine and build new models? How can design, conceptual, architectural, and visual arts practices meet in mobile, self-perpetuating, organic structures. TT and EF are both active research platforms for global, independent and collaborative initiatives working across disciplines with and in the space in-between.
Embracing emergence, dialogue, feedback, self-organization, adaptive learning and connective technologies, EF and TT are not tied to any single locality, building or national identity. We promote exchange over isolation; collaboration and innovation and tradition; and horizontal networks, ideas and models over hierarchies.
TT was founded in 2004 and EF in 2018 (official launch in the Fall, pre-launch event this past January in Mexico City: On Limits, Borders, Edges and Boundaries).
Current Projects
TT+EF TRIENNALE (details here) is a three-year cycle introducing a research theme by which EF and TT initiate new projects, symposia and events. Now in its second edition, the third iteration will launch in 2019.
TT+EF NEST (New Experiments of Sharing Terrain)
Across the world increasing numbers of people seek opportunities to NEST. Not only those escaping war, famine and social unrest, but also seeking connection, collaboration and exchange beyond cultural and physical borders. New NESTs begin with conversation, exchanging models of thinking: what is shared and what is at stake; where the imagining of new models is fostered and shared; made visible and viable; where lines drawn to separate break down and are re-knit as connective webs (details here).
TT+EF seek to inject vitality and urgency to models of social practice of art and design in-between: logical and illogical, intelligent and emotional, temporary and self-perpetuating; for ideas of development and emergence, of change. How can we do as well as be?
