ARCOmadrid 2019: Guest Country Peru
February 27–March 3, 2019
ARCOmadrid is pleased to announce that the call for applications to the 2019 edition of the fair is now open.
Standing at the cross-roads between Europe and Latin America, ARCOmadrid—now celebrating its 38th edition—has established itself over the years as one of the art world’s premier international platforms for Latin American art and market, offering an ideal meeting place for Latin America’s and Europe’s leading galleries, artists, curators and collectors.
In this spirit, Peru will be the featured country at ARCOmadrid 2019, which will include a special section—curated by Sharon Lerner, the contemporary art curator at Lima’s MALI Museum—dedicated to a highly informed selection of the most up-to-date work being created by the highest calibre Peruvian artists working around the world. Also, numerous satellite exhibitions and projects featuring Peruvian artists, art centres and art collections will be hosted by art institutions throughout the Spanish capital in conjunction with the fair itself. All of these artistic activities will be accompanied by diverse offerings of Peru’s internationally renowned gastronomy.
In addition to the guest country Peru section, ARCOmadrid 2019 will maintain its popular curated sections such as Opening and Dialogues, where special emphasis is placed on new and cutting-edge works of art. Opening, curated by Tiago de Abreu Pinto and Ilaria Gianni, will offer a selection of the most vanguard younger galleries from around the world. Dialogues, curated by Catalina Lozano and Agustín Pérez-Rubio, will consist of a carefully orchestrated selection of galleries, each bringing only one or two artists and presenting new work created especially for the fair. The fair’s General Programme will consist of nearly 200 leading international galleries, selected by the fair’s highly prestigious organizing committee.
ARCOmadrid 2019 will also host an extensive program of professional activities, inviting critics, curators, museum directors and major art world figures to participate in a wide-ranging program of panel discussions and professional encounters. These events—a highly-anticipated element of the fair year after year—offer a broad spectrum of art world figures an opportunity to discuss projects and debate ideas, while incorporating their visions and voices into the fair’s overall activities.
As has become an annual tradition at ARCOmadrid, the design of the featured nation section has been commissioned to a leading contemporary architecture firm—the acclaimed Peruvian firm Llama Urban Design.
In addition, ARCOmadrid has also upgraded the fair’s infrastructure for the 2019, investing in significant improvements and innovations in the lighting and structure of the booths themselves.
Applications for ARCOmadrid 2019 will be accepted until June 29. Detailed instructions are available on the fair’s website.
