International Exhibition of Modern and Contemporary Art

Under the new artistic direction of Simone Menegoi, the 48-year-old curator and critic, the 2019 edition of Arte Fiera begins a process of total renewal.
The key word for the new approach is “selection.” Arte Fiera 2019 will introduce a new requisite for participation: the galleries are invited to present a limited number of artists (only three artists for stands of up to 64m2 and up to a maximum of six for stands larger than 72m2). Furthermore, there is a significant incentive for galleries presenting solo shows. This approach prioritizes a more in-depth view and specialization, encouraging exhibitors to present ambitious projects and curatorial selections in such a way as to attract high profile collectors.
This approach will be supported by a campaign of targeted invitations to hundreds of high profile collectors as well as new initiatives reserved for VIPS.
The fair is organised into two sections, the Main section and Photography and Moving Images. The former ranges from post-war art, a particular strength for Arte Fiera, to contemporary art and research. The photography section, open to video and with a completely renewed content, has been entrusted to the artistic direction of FANTOM, the curatorial platform established between Milan and New York in 2009, and represented by Selva Barni, Ilaria Speri, Massimo Torrigiani and Francesco Zanot.
One of the strengths of the program of events, which will be announced in the autumn, will be performance, an integral part of the artistic identity of Bologna and a qualifying feature of the new artistic direction.
