Assistant Professor of Interdisciplinary Art (tenure track), position # 6274

The Division of Art of the Meadows School of the Arts seeks to appoint an Interdisciplinary Artist at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure track), commencing August 2019. We understand interdisciplinarity in the arts to be a term that describes an ethos of aesthetic and cultural integration of knowledge and expressive resources associated with the fine and performing arts, the humanities, and the sciences.

The candidate should be able to demonstrate an established or emerging practice as an artist and prior teaching experience of at least one year full time (or its equivalent) at university level. Women, minorities, veterans and persons with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.

By ‘established’ artistic practice we mean a record of exhibitions and/or projects and/or performances at a national and international level; by ‘emerging’ artistic practice, we mean a record of exhibitions and/or projects and/or performances at a regional and national level.

Both these factors—your work as an artist and your work as an educator—should be clearly interdisciplinary. We are especially interested in artists whose work is critically engaged with a diverse range of aesthetic and cultural values.

The ideal candidate will be an individual whose work demonstrates a unique, experimental approach that challenges our understanding and expectations with respect to contemporary art practices and pedagogy. Such artistic practices may include, but are not limited to: artworks created using a combination of non-standard materials and/or traditional craft-based skills; installation; artist bookworks; creative computation; sound art; performance; interactive media; video; written, spoken and performed text; DIY and collaborative strategies; relational art forms; and community-oriented projects centered on social justice or urban design. Candidates must have a terminal degree (MFA or PhD) completed by August 2019.

Please apply using Slideroom.

Review of applications will continue up to the submission deadline. To ensure full consideration for the position, the application must be received by midnight (CST), November 30, 2018.

The committee will notify applicants of its employment decisions after the position is filled. Hiring is contingent upon the satisfactory completion of a background check.
