With the needs of working professionals in mind, Sotheby’s Institute of Art in New York is now offering our core MA in Art Business program in a flexible evening and weekend format. Students complete the program in one year through classes offered in the evening and on weekends, plus 1-week intensives in August and January.

The MA in Art Business at Sotheby’s Institute prepares students for a variety of careers in both the commercial and the non-profit sectors of the art world. Balancing academic rigor with real-world applications, the program provides an alternative to traditional academic models of study with faculty and curriculum that keep pace with the rapidly-evolving global art market.

The core curriculum is a thorough preparation in art law, valuation, marketing, and finance. A variety of electives allows students to build a unique program that meets their professional and academic goals. Discussion-based seminars explore aspects of art markets, auction houses, gallery and museum management, collection building, art advisory, and curating.

Students at Sotheby’s Institute bring a wealth of complementary backgrounds to the program, with students of art and art history, lawyers and entrepreneurs combining their expertise to develop innovative group projects and, after graduation, new art business ventures.
