Casa da Arquitectura - Portuguese Centre for Architecture, celebrates its first anniversary at Quarteirão Real Vinícola headquarters, in Matosinhos, Portugal, on November 16, 17 and 18, with a special, open house celebration weekend.
We are celebrating one year of intense programming, during which we have displayed, in our venues, eight diferent exhibitions, three of which in the Exhibition Hall. We have walked through the paths of Poder Arquitectura (Power Architecture), we have displayed Universalistas: 50 anos de arquitectura portuguesa (Universalists: 50 Years of Portuguese Architecture) and we are currently travelling through 90 years of brazilian architecture in Infinito Vão - 90 Anos de Arquitetura Brasileira.
At the Casa’s Gallery we have displayed the 10th BIAU – Exhibition for the Bienal Iberoamericana de Arquitetura e Urbanismo and we have celebrated A Casa da Democracia – Entre Espaço e Poder (House of Democracy - Between Space and Power), following the exhibition held to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Remade project. After the Still Cabanon exhibition, Duas Casas de Paulo Mendes da Rocha (Two Houses of Paulo Mendes da Rocha) will be displayed until February 10.
Each exhibition included an ecletic parallel programme of conferences and visits, mixing cinema, music, literature and events for children and families.
More than 50,000 have crossed the gates of Real Vinícola during this first year and over 31,000 joined the 4th edition of Open House Porto 2018, organized by Casa da Arquitectura with the cities of Porto, Matosinhos and Vila Nova de Gaia.
But Casa da Arquitectura is more than an exhibition centre.
It was a decisive year for the Archive of Casa da Arquitectura, that has received the immense collection of Coleção Brasil (Brazil Architecture), which came from across the Atlantic and gave rise to the Infinito Vão exhibition, on display until April 2019.
The Casa da Arquitectura Archive has received and handled 50,000 documents, among which 2,900 original drawings and 18 models of a total of 103 projects delivered by a group of 150 generous brazilian donors. This collection will soon be available online.
For this first anniversary, inspired by Brazil, we invite everyone for our tours, activities for children and families, artistic performances, debates, talks, book launches and music with a Brazilian accent.
Infinito Vão parallel programme continues until April 2019.
