Welcome to a two day conference organized by RIA professor Sigrid Sandström.

Material Matters will address different approaches to materiality in relation to the field of painting, stemming from a number of political, theoretical and practice-based concerns and positions. Where are we after the “material turn” and object-based theories? How do we write/think about materials and process? What new meaning comes out of the instability of materials, their accelerated obsolescence and disappearance? What painterly strategies are used to address the fictitious character of material? What role does the evanescence of material play? What new  knowledge and conversations are being generated when looking through a material lens? The conference title Material Matters can act as both a question and an assertion.

The conference is free but requires you to RSVP at the latest December 5. RSVP here.
