Gerrit Rietveld Academie is strengthening its research capacity by creating new research positions connected to our bachelor and master programmes. We do so to develop new knowledge in the field of art and design, and to reflect on the creative process and the practice of the artist and the designer in general. This way artistic research generates new content for our programmes and is essential for relating the academy to the issues, opportunities and challenges we see in the world around us. Accordingly Gerrit Rietveld Academie sees Artificial Intelligence as an important research field to be opened up for the arts. We think that artists and designers can work together with other researchers at universities and institutes in this field, to contribute to new perspectives, and create possibilities by relating new technologies to societal issues through the arts.

Gerrit Rietveld Academie offers a vacancy for a Lecturer Artificial Intelligence, PhD (0,6 fte)
The lecturer will be responsible for the development of a new lectorate which will be connected in both content and organisation to the Sandberg Instituut, the master programmes of the academy.

Will be responsible for the further development of practice-based research in the field of Artificial Intelligence by setting up own research projects, and initiate and direct research performed by others (teachers, tutors, alumni, students, externals).

Establishes collaborations with local, national and international institutions and research networks. Initiates joint research projects, presentations, publications and other forms of dissemination of results, and contributes in finding additional funding.

Contributes to the further development of a research policy for the entire academy, in close collaboration with lectorate LAPS—for research in the field of Art in Public Space.

Takes an active position in the further development of new forms of practice based research in the arts and in development of a third cycle of art education in the Netherlands.
