Call for applications: Italian Council
International program aimed at promoting Italian contemporary art

There is still time to apply for Italian Council, the international call in support of Italian contemporary art, promoted by the Directorate-General for Contemporary Art and Architecture and Urban Peripheries (DGAAP), division of the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities.

Applications can be submitted within September 30, 2019.

The program is open to Italian and international museums, non-profit public and private bodies, universities, foundations, formally constituted committees, non-profit cultural associations and Italian artists, curators and critics.

For this call, a budget of EUR 1,900,000 has been made available.

Projects submitted will be selected by a jury committee, chaired by the General Director of the DGAAP, composed by Bartomeu Marí Ribas (Director of MALI - Museo de Arte de Lima), Marco Scotini (Director of the Visual Arts and Curatorial Studies Department of NABA Academy, Milan), Claudio Varagnoli (Architect and Professor at University of Chieti) and Angela Vettese (Historian, Critic and Professor at IUAV University in Venice).

Between May 2017 and July 2019, Italian Council awarded 56 projects involving more than 60 countries and 100 international Institutions (see past projects here). With the new edition, the program has become more accessible, international, inclusive and open to a greater number of initiatives.

The call is focused in particularly on:
Increasing the collections of Italian public museums through the acquisition or production of artworks by Italian artists, also during residencies and exhibitions.
Encouraging the development of talents and the international promotion of Italian artists, curators and critics through the financing of projects aimed at the participation in international events and residencies abroad, the realization of monographic exhibitions on Italian living artists at foreign cultural institutions and international publishing projects dedicated to Italian contemporary art.

Each proposal must include projects involving a collaboration with international organizations and/or a international promotion phase abroad. The funding cannot exceed 80% of the total amount, with a maximum that varies according to the type of initiative presented.

In order to apply, participants need to register here and submit the application no later than September 30, 2019.

More information on the call are available here.
