BU is accepting applications for graduate study in a diverse array of studio-driven programs, including Painting, Sculpture, Graphic Design, and Art Education. Our programs are designed for creative practitioners seeking to advance their practice through rigorous applied study, critical discourse, and close mentorship. MFA Graphic Design
The MFA program in Graphic Design provides a sequenced studio approach to advanced design thinking and problem solving for visual communication, preparing students to thrive in a dynamic professional environment. A solutions-based practice framed by key principles defines the core graphic design studios.
MFA Painting
The MFA program in Painting at Boston University promotes the discipline in its varied manifestations as a fundamental form of artistic expression. At its core, the program is studio-driven, with rigorous expectations about each student’s commitment to their own artistic practice and their critical engagement with the discourses and histories of the medium.
MFA Sculpture
The MFA program in Sculpture provides the tools and language for students to become rigorous thinkers and artists in the twenty-first century. The program interweaves the significant demands of creative production, intellectual and theoretical inquiry, and critical engagement with cultural history and contemporary art discourse.
MA Art Education
The Art Education program is committed to preparing teaching artists who are passionate about both their own creative practice and their pedagogy. As part of a professionally oriented art school at a major research institution, the program is uniquely positioned to offer students an opportunity to engage in arts-based research as part of their education. The MA in Art Education is also offered both on-campus and online.
