e-flux journal at the 56th Venice Biennale
e-flux journal has been invited to participate in the Venice Biennale this year. For our contribution we’ve decided to address e-flux journal and its readership as the supercommunity. Under this premise we will create a single issue of the journal spanning four months from May to August, with one piece of writing released each day.
Departing from our usual essayistic format, the contents of this issue will include poetry, short fiction, plays and screenplays, as well as other epistolary forms by nearly one hundred authors. These contributions will be discussed and debated on our new platform e-flux conversations.
Supercommunity is an umbrella for several sub-themes, such as PLANETARY COMPUTING (IS THE UNIVERSE ACTUALLY A GIGANTIC COMPUTER?); CORRUPTION: EVERYBODY KNOWS… (with Natasha Ginwala); THE SOCIAL COMMONS: CITIZENS IN THE SHADE, ALIENS IN THE SUN (with Raqs Media Collective); COSMOS (with Boris Groys); THE ART OF WORK; POLITICS OF SHINE (with Tom Holert); CUBA: THE FADING OF A SUBCONTINENTAL DREAM (with Coco Fusco); APOCALYPSIS (with Pedro Neves Marques); and last but not least, “ART.”
On Friday, May 8 at 14.45h, join Julieta Aranda, Brian Kuan Wood, and Anton Vidokle as well as guest editor Natasha Ginwala for an opening event at the Arena, located in the Central Pavilion in Giardini.
The opening event will be followed by a reception at the Greenhouse at Giardini from 16.30 to 18h.
We look forward to seeing you there!
This special issue of e-flux journal is published in cooperation with Wuhan Art Terminus (WH.A.T.). Selected texts will appear in Chinese and English on its online platform WH.A.T. TEXT. Generous support for the issue has been provided by Remai Modern Art Gallery of Saskatchewan, where a symposium around the topics in this issue will be held in fall 2015. Many thanks to Microclima at Serra dei Giardini for distribution of the print version of e-flux journal in Venice.
