Call for applications: Site-Specific Art

The Department of Site-Specific Art at the University of Applied Arts Vienna is accepting applications for its diploma program by February 24 and 25, 2020.

We see the program as a field for experimentation in which it is possible to develop one’s own independent artistic position.

Being able to present work in the department’s own project space or in public space, think through what one is doing in one-on-one conversations or group discussions, learn theory as well as practical implementation, all these opportunities promote and stimulate the various interests of each individual student. The range of different course offerings makes it possible to integrate current topics into the lesson and one’s own practical work, issues that truly impact the present. These include discourses about ecology, public space, nature/culture, diversity, feminism, queerness, the counterpublic sphere, digitality, and our technological conditions.

The program offers students the following:
–Theory and practice with a wide range of course offerings
–Studio spaces and equipment
–Public exhibition space for students of the Department of Site-Specific Art
–Exhibition and studio visits, field trips
–Lectures, workshops, and round table events by and with international guests
–Exchange and cooperation with students from other majors, e.g. painting, photography, graphic design, sculpture, and media arts
–International study abroad/exchange programs
–The university’s annual exhibition
–Students and lecturers with broad backgrounds
–Individual feedback
–Discussions and project work in groups

We encourage students to develop and implement their own ideas and projects in various workshops:
–Wood, metal, and mold-making and casting workshop
–Photo, video, and sound workshop
–Text workshop

The Department of Site-Specific Art is part of the Institute of Fine Arts and Media Art.
The diploma program requires a minimum of eight semesters to complete. Because of our international students and university lecturers, classes are taught in German/English.

Admission/portfolio/entrance examination
For admission to the program students must pass an entrance examination and submit a portfolio that represents their personal interests. Above all, this portfolio should help us get to know the candidate and his/her interests and skills. The exam also includes a project part and a personal interview with the team and student representatives, who then decide whether to admit the candidate.
