Conceived and designed by the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain
Sponsored by Tenaris – Organización Techint

In conjunction with the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain, it is with great pleasure that Fundación Proa presents the first exhibition of artist Ron Mueck ever held in South America; the show was conceived and designed by the Fondation Cartier.

The show consists of nine works by Ron Muek, as well as the film Sill Life. Ron Mueck at work directed by Gautier Deblonde, which documents the creation of Mueck’s three most recent sculptures, produced especially for this tour.

Ron Mueck forms part of the classic sculptural tradition insofar as he represents the human figure. The themes, materials, and techniques that he employs, however, make him an innovative and contemporary creator. His sculptures are riveting due to the change in scale that they effect as well as the realism of his figures whose gestures subtly express situations steeped in life and mystery.

The Spanish-language exhibition catalogue constitutes crucial reference material on Ron Mueck’s art. With texts by Robert Storr and Justin Paton, it offers a new vision of Mueck and his work. “There can be little doubt that Ron Mueck aims to disconcert us. Why else would his sculpture be Alice in Wonderland large and small? […] Two things are sure; we are a long way from the classical ideal of sculpture, and an equally long way from its modernist equivalent in idealist abstraction,” writes Robert Storr in Notes on Ron Mueck (London and Paris, 2013).

The exhibition, which was conceived and designed by the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain, Paris, and presented in Fundación Proa with the support of the French Embassy in Argentina, is sponsored by Tenaris – Organización Techint in Argentina and Brazil. The tour will continue to the Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where the exhibition will be on display from March to June 2014.
