The Curatorial Intensive is targeted toward self-motivated individuals—working independently or in institutions—who would benefit from a week of intensive conversations around the issues and questions that regularly arise for curators. These range from the pragmatics of developing an exhibition and building working relationships with artists to the theoretical aspects of understanding how to turn a concept into a project and effectively communicate ideas.
Focusing on new models for curating and exhibition development, ICI’s annual summer Curatorial Intensive offers curators the opportunity to meet colleagues from around the world and share ideas on how to push the parameters of their practice.
Seminars, site visits, individual meetings, and roundtable discussions will be led by the following faculty: Bruce Altshuler (Director, Program in Museum Studies, New York University), Nicholas Cullinan (Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art), Reem Fadda (Associate Curator of Middle Eastern Art, Abu Dhabi Project, Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, New York), Kate Fowle (Chief Curator, Garage, Moscow, and Director-at-Large, ICI), Dóra Hegyi (Project Leader, tranzit.hu, Budapest), Todd Levin (art advisor), Chus Martínez (Chief Curator, El Museo del Barrio, New York), Gabriela Rangel (Director of Visual Arts and Curator, Americas Society, New York), and Jenny Schlenzka (Associate Curator, MoMA PS1, New York), among others.

About the Curatorial Intensive
The Curatorial Intensive is ICI’s short-term, low-cost training program that offers 12–14 curators the chance to develop project ideas and make connections with professionals in the field. It also provides the invaluable opportunity for peer-group education, forging new networks internationally. The Curatorial Intensive is made possible in part by grants from the Lily Auchincloss Foundation, the Robert Sterling Clark Foundation, the Dedalus Foundation, the Hartfield Foundation, and the Milton and Sally Avery Arts Foundation; and by generous contributions from Toby Devan Lewis, the ICI Board of Trustees, the ICI Gerrit Lansing Education Fund, and the supporters of ICI’s Access Fund.
