“The Mission of Biennials/Triennials:
An East Asian Perspective”

Art Space A, Aichi Arts Center 12F
1-13-2, Higashi-Sakura, Higashi-ku
Nagoya City, Aichi 4618525, Japan
From the 1990s and 2000s, several characteristic biennales/triennales have been launched in East Asian countries. The Japan Foundation also launched the Yokohama Triennale in 2001 and continued to hold it in 2005 and 2008 as one of the most important international art exhibitions in Japan.
Through organizing biennales/triennales, each organizer might gain some experience on how to manage the organization and take over the problems of continuing the exhibition. In this international symposium, we would like not only to discuss the background history and mission of each biennale/triennale, but also to share both knowledge on how to continue biennales/triennales and various experiences from the viewpoint of organizers.
