Where Do We Go From Here? Selections from La Collection Jumex positions art as a cultural index by juxtaposing inter-generational artists, as well as, artists from, or based in Mexico with international counterparts. The exhibition has four sections: art about art; art and urban anthropology; text in art; and a series of artist profiles. These conceptual clusters are important as they spin a narrative from one work to the other as well as provide key contextual reference points. Artists include:

Francis Alÿs, Carlos Amorales, John Baldessari, Stefan Brüggemann, Maurizio Cattelan, Abraham Cruzvillegas, Minerva Cuevas, Ale de la Puente, Gardar Eide Einarsson, Peter Fischli & David Weiss, Claire Fontaine, Claire Fontaine, Reena Spauldings and Bernadette Corporation, Mario Garcia Torres, Douglas Gordon, Daniel Guzmán, Jonathan Hernández, Jenny Holzer, Donald Judd, On Kawara, Jeff Koons, Joseph Kosuth, Gabriel Kuri, Louise Lawler, Sherrie Levine, Paul McCarthy, Jorge Méndez Blake, Jonathan Monk, ‘Moris’ Israel Meza Moreno, Sarah Morris, Gabriel Orozco, Damian Ortega, Richard Pettibone, Jack Pierson, Ugo Rondinone, Ed Ruscha, Rudolf Stingel, Rosemarie Trockel, Kelley Walker, Andy Warhol, Lawrence Weiner, Franz West, Cerith Wyn Evans.

Where Do We Go From Here? Selections from La Colección Jumex examines art as a cultural index by means of fluid thematic foci that juxtapose inter-generational artists as well as artists from or based in Mexico with their international counterparts. The exhibition has four nuclei that are open and in dialogue with one another: art about art; art and urban anthropology; text in art; and a series of succinct artist profiles.

These conceptual clusters entertain issues posed by artists revisiting key moments in modernism; examining the city as a laboratory; reflecting on the Pop and conceptual legacy around text in art; and spotlighting selected artists whose contribution is significant to contemporary production and ideas.

Spinning frameworks, and weaving converging narratives, the curatorial approach provides key contextual reference points that ground the viewer while suggesting an open reading.

This exhibition is co-organized by the Bass Museum in Miami Beach; the Contemporary Arts Center, located in the Lois and Richard Rosenthal Center for Contemporary Art, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Fundación/Colección Jumex based in Mexico City. This will be the first time that this collection is presented in the United States.

Where Do We Go From Here? Selections from La Colección Jumex will be on view to the public at the Bass Museum of Art from December 3, 2009 through March 14, 2010, with an opening concurrent with Art Basel Miami Beach. The exhibition will be on view at the Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati from September 2010 through January 2011.
