Henrik Vibskov and Andreas Emenius to perform a makeover on the Zeeuws Museum.

The Danish fashion designer Henrik Vibskov and the Swedish graphic designer Andreas Emenius have worked together for several years on a ten-part project entitled Fringe Projects incorporating performance, magazines, video works and fashion designs. The title refers to the fact that the projects are carried out in the margins of both designer’ disciplines and are executed in a variety of (mixed) media. The title should also be taken literally: hair fringes are central to each of the projects. Nine of the projects have already been completed and have been exhibited in Milan, Zurich and Copenhagen. They have been published in the magazine Dazed & Confused. The tenth project will be realised in the Zeeuws Museum and will be Vibskov and Emenius’ first project in the Netherlands.

The Zeeuws Museum will be the first institution to exhibit the complete series of projects. Vibskov and Emenius will be granted access to the entire museum to present the Fringe Projects in three ways: as individual works, as a dialogue with the collections and as a portal to and perspective for viewing aspects of the collection. This approach will give the Fringe Projects and extra dimension: they will be linked to the local context while simultaneously altering that context.

The radical decision to give the museum an entirely new image for three months stems from the desire to explore the boundaries of the museum’s dynamic. The experiment will transform the museum into a laboratory for cultural fusion and a place where the scope of radical new perspectives can be measured.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a catalogue on the Fringe Projects (Episode Publishers).

Vibskov and Emenius
Henrik Vibskov (1972) has recently created a storm with his eclectic fashion designs fusing African and Scandinavian influences. His outlandish fashion shows are multimedia exhibitions in their own right, offering a glimpse into Vibskov’s bizarre yet fascinating world in which couture and street culture merge effortlessly. His shows have attracted international attention both within the fashion world and beyond. Vibskov is active as a visual artist and filmmaker – his short film The Monk has won various prizes – and he is also the drummer in the band of the Danish musician Trentemøller. After graduating Andreas Emenius (1973) worked with the famous graphic designer Neville Brody in Paris. He has worked as a designer for Kenzo and Adidas, made illustrations for Nike Nederland, sculptures for DNP Tokyo and set designs for Das Schauspielhaus in Hamburg. He is also active as a musician in the techno scene. Vibskov and Emenius met during their studies at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London.

The exhibition is curated by Christie Arends,
Head of exhibitions and collections
