Each spring, the Blaffer Art Museum and the University of Houston School of Art proudly presents the work of the Masters of Fine Arts degree candidates from the school’s five studio programs: Graphic Design, Interdisciplinary Practice and Emerging Forms, Painting, Photography/Digital Media, and Sculpture. The exhibition showcases highly developed bodies of work produced in a studio-intensive environment over a three-year degree program.

Faculty in the School of Art are leading practitioners in their fields who have earned recognition from preeminent institutions including the American Academy in Rome, American Council of Learned Societies, the Andy Warhol Foundation, Getty Foundation, Guggenheim Foundation, the MacArthur Foundation, National Endowment for the Arts, National Endowment for the Humanities and many others. Faculty have exhibited internationally at prestigious exhibitions including the Whitney Biennial, São Paulo Art Biennial, and Venice Biennale.

At the UH School of Art, we celebrate the centrality of art and design as drivers of culture and recognize their importance to the vitality of a civil society. We train artists, designers, and art historians who will inform, engage and move us toward a better understanding of each other and the communities we inhabit. We do this by making a commitment to connect the creativity of art to the practice of global citizenship, equipping our students with strategies for making and tools for living that value diverse human expression, ethics, and social engagement.

The Blaffer Art Museum is the contemporary art museum of the University of Houston. Founded in 1973, the Blaffer endeavors to further the understanding of contemporary art through exhibitions, publications, and public programs. As the gateway between the University of Houston’s Central campus and the City of Houston, Blaffer Art Museum is a catalyst for creative innovation, experimentation, and scholarship. Its exhibitions and programs are free and open to the public, create community through dialogue and participation, and inspire an appreciation for the visual arts as a vital force in shaping contemporary culture.
