In order to promote excellence in academic disciplines, NABA intends to support highly motivated talents by offering a total of 50 scholarships related to all its postgraduate programmes, 25 dedicated to international students covering up to 50% of the tuition fees, and 25 dedicated to Italian students (one covering up to 75%, six up to 50% and eighteen up to 25%) to attend Two-year Masters of Arts and One-year Academic Masters, starting in October 2021.
Within the Academy’s Visual Arts Department, the scholarships relate to the two-year Master of Arts in Visual Arts and Curatorial Studies and one-year Academic Masters in Contemporary Art Markets and in Photography and Visual Design.
Scholarships will be awarded based on the evaluation of the candidates’ project, to be realised starting from the brief of the chosen programme.
The competition brief dedicated to the MA in Visual Arts and Curatorial Studies was created in collaboration with FM Centre for Contemporary Art; the one dedicated to the Master in Contemporary Art Markets was conceived in collaboration with Artissima, Italy’s most important contemporary art fair; and the competition brief for the Master in Photography and Visual Arts in collaboration with CAMERA – Centro Italiano per la Fotografia.
The deadlines to send the application and all the materials required is April 16 for the competition dedicated to international students (more info here) and April 21 for the competition dedicated to Italian students (more info here).
NABA Visual Arts Department
By means of its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, NABA Visual Arts Department focuses on visual arts, display, theory, art markets, publishing, curatorship and writing as crucial aspects of contemporary art professions. It addresses contemporary art as a methodology that enables interdisciplinary and cross-cultural approaches, beginning with an in-depth investigation into the aesthetic, social and economic contexts.
NABA Visual Arts Department relies on a prominent Faculty, made up of artists and professionals such as Marco Scotini, NABA Visual Arts Department Head, Andris Brinkmanis, Course Leader of the Bachelor of Arts in Painting and Visual Arts, Ilaria Bonacossa, Course Advisor Leader of the Academic Master in Contemporary Art Markets, and Francesco Zanot Course Advisor Leader of the Academic Master in Photography and Visual Design. Among the Academy’s Faculty and Visiting Professors: Yuri Ancarani, Pierre Bal-Blanc, Massimo Bartolini, Vincenzo Castella, Ana Dević (What, How & for Whom/WHW), Hou Hanru, Francesco Jodice, Marcello Maloberti, Christian Marazzi, Adrian Paci, Marinella Senatore, Luca Vitone, Carol Yinghua Lu & Liu Ding.
The themes and research areas that have characterised the Department over the years, reconsidering artistic production by means of a number of interdisciplinary vectors, are therefore memory and archive, history, feminist and post-colonial narratives, ecology and the social dimension.
“Utopian Display. Geopolitical Curating”, edited by Marco Scotini, is a publication part of the editorial series NABA Insights developed by NABA and published by Quodlibet, questioning about the role of contemporary art in society by comparing the current polycentric explosion of art with the new world order, with the contributions of, among others, Ute Meta Bauer, Charles Esche, Anselm Franke, Andrea Giunta, Geeta Kapur, Vasif Kortun, Miguel A. López, Gerardo Mosquera, Simon Njami, Rasha Salti. The anthology focuses on the possibilities and limitations of curatorial practice and the institutional models in the artistic field, beginning with the collapse of Socialism. The volume attempts to bring together curatorial experiences that have matured over the past thirty years in the global context.
