The first international bi-annual contemporary art exhibition in Poznań, Mediations Biennale is intended to become one of the largest events of the kind in Central Europe. The main idea of the biennale is mediation, a dialogue between different cultures of the world, based on the experience and exploration of the culture and art of Central Europe.

Poland’s location on the borderland of European and Asian influences, for centuries stimulated development of a unique cultural perspective, which differs from the post-colonial identity of Western Europe. The art of Central Europe is the result of mutual social, historical, ethnic, religious, cultural and aesthetic influences. At times, remotely inspired by main European trends, it produced completely new artistic phenomena and manifestos. Although it is difficult to talk about Central European art as a separate, consistent reality, each confrontation with it evokes a desire to name this unique phenomenon so deeply embedded in the region’s reality.

16 exhibitions in most prestigious exhibition spaces in Poznań, over 200 artists amongst others: Marina Abramović, Günter Brus, Chen Chieh-Jen, Weng Fen, Jan Fabre, Gloria Friedmann, Paolo Grassino, Shilpa Gupta, Izabella Gustowska, Tamás Hencze, William Kentridge, Anselm Kieler, Jarosław Kozłowski, Laura Lancaster, Zbigniew Libera, Hermann Nitsch, Roman Opałka, Giuseppe Penone, Sándor Pinczehelyi, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Joanna Rajkowska, Zdenek Sykora, Günther Becker, Lee Ufan czy Koen Vanmechelen.

The Biennale consists of two elements. Main Program are three curator exhibitions presented at the National Museum in Poznań, “Zamek” Culture Centre and Old Printing House:
