Low-residency MFA

The hybrid delivery model is here to stay, offering innovative online coursework combined with intensive on-campus residencies. For critical thinkers and artists who want to take their creative practice to the next level, a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree at Emily Carr will allow you to experiment, research, and explore in a unique studio environment. There are two distinct paths available to you at Emily Carr: full-residency (two years of research and material exploration completed in an on-campus delivery model) and low-residency.

Why choose a low-residency MFA?
The low-residency MFA was created for artists who want to continue to learn in their home communities while deepening their practice and building new professional connections.

The program takes two years to complete in a hybrid model which includes both online coursework and on-campus summer residencies. Designed to provide the best of both worlds, this program includes on-campus summer residencies where you can focus on your studio practice, allowing you to expand your creative research and material exploration in Vancouver.

Combine the best of both worlds with the low-residency MFA. There are many opportunities for low-residency students to connect with their full-time peers and the rest of the ECU community by participating in year-round professional development activities and other programming.
