Gerrit Rietveld Academie proudly presents the work of around 170 fine art and design graduates in its annual Graduation Show. They have completed their four-to-five-year Bachelor Fine Arts & Design at one of the 14 departments. The exhibition marks both the end of their studies and the start of their professional careers. They reimagine their connection to the world, some by reworking materials of the present, and others by proposing new forms of engagement to think past current categories.
The works of the graduates from all over the world show a wide variety of approaches, objectives, thematic focus, presentation and intentionality. Works about wonder, beauty and awe; works that illuminate and explore the philosophical implications of these phenomena. Such as the helicopter seeds machine of David Kerssens Goedhart. Kerssens Goedhart believes that simple observations can lead to profound contemplation, but can also bring pure joy. Or Emma Sardoni’s animated film about a mammal called Meatstew who believes she’s pregnant. Her partner, Fishstew, doesn’t believe her until he also becomes pregnant.
Simultaneously with the Rietveld Academie Graduation Show, graduates of Sandberg Instituut Main Department Fine Arts and Temporary Programme Approaching Language show their work.
