MiArt 2007: the art connection
Its going to be an amazing and full of events that MiArt 2007, an edition enriched by many novelties aiming to create a wide and international art network around the fair and Milan, capital city for fashion, design and visual arts.
MiArt 2007 is inaugurating its twelfth year with expanded, re-dimensioned exhibition space and Holland as its new guest country. As part of the rotating guest country program, Hollands most prestigious galleries will attend the Milan-based fair, following last years line-up of select galleries from China. Just as the previous year promised to introduce new frontiers in the worlds contemporary art scene, this year affirms MiArts dedication to a culture of sustaining and promoting contemporary and avant-garde art. A culture MiArt believes is very much alive in the Dutch tradition since the XIV century to nowadays. As a matter of fact Holland is worldwide known to be a country in which are accomaditing nascent and creative trends in all the artsexpressions.
Thanks to its long lasting democratic tradition, Holland is able to promote contemporary art through a kind of system composed by State, private sponsors, foundations, collectors and agencies of production to sustain the artists. This Country offers some services to the artists, like the residency program or the agencies of production that are specialized to make possible relevant works of art or helping to organize performance or live show.
All these key features distinguishing this European model, have convinced MiArt to invite a selection of more prestigious Dutch institutions, either public or private, and galleries. The Holland project, curated by Marianna Vecellio, has interested the most important Dutch institutions and contemporary art galleries such as Martin van Zomeren/gmvz, Amsterdam or Diana Stigter, Amsterdam.
More news to be discovered during the forthcoming edition. Instead of two pavilions, this coming years MiArt will feature three. Crucially, an added pavilion will allow for greater distinction between three thematic areas: the Modern, the Contemporary and the Anteprima, a section reserved for works considered experimental. This last space is exclusively open to artists under 35, an ode to the work of young artists, and, more importantly, indicative of the organizers conviction that emerging artists must be supported and must have a chance to exhibit.
The Anteprima will also include a video art section. For the second year running, a dark area within the Anteprima, sealed from light, will house numerous video art installations continuously in play throughout the show. Maria Rosa Sossai and Ian White from Londons Whitechapel will follow this challenging project. Dont miss it!
With many galleries from around the world, new and past contributors, confirming their presence for the 2007 edition, MiArt hopes to attract the great number of visitors that have come in years before. Collaborations with galleries from Paris and New York, to Tokyo and London or Barcelona, to the major Italian galleries, have created an impressive and ever-expanding network that MiArt relies on. Always eager to see it grow, it will include again this year many exhibitors to meet and surpass the expectations of an international public.
