The friends and members of the Los Angeles art community humbly request your kind attention to a tragic matter

Dear Friends,

We suffered a terrible loss this October with the tragic death of Jose Marin. Jose was a highly respected and integral figure in this community as well as a devoted and loving husband and father.

Jose was born in Cardenas, Cuba in 1962. He graduated with a BA in Fine Arts from the University of South Florida in 1988 and moved to Los Angeles in 1992. While in Los Angeles he held many important positions in the arts, to include Curator at Gemini G.E.L., Chief Preparator at Pace Wildenstein, and Chief Preparator at the J. Paul Getty Center. He also worked for a number of other institutions, galleries, private collectors and artists.

He is survived by his wife Stacia Payne, MOCAs Manager of Exhibition Programs and Curatorial Affairs, and their two young daughters Maya and Luisa, who are 5 and 2 years old, respectively. The Jose Marin Family Fund was created to support Maya and Luisas educations.

While many generous contributions have been made, several prominent Los Angeles art world members initiated an exhibition to further enhance the Trust.

The response to a call for works has been tremendous with many local and international artists and galleries generously donating work to be privately sold with the proceeds going to the Jose Marin Family Fund.

The artists include:

John Baldessari, Jeremy Blake, Delia Brown, Morgan Fisher, Richard Hawkins, Margaret Honda, Konstantin Kakanias, Martin Kippenberger, Barbara Kruger, Laura London, T. Kelly Mason, Jason Meadows, J.P. Munro, Jorge Pardo, Ugo Rodinone, Thaddeus Strode, Diana Thater, Pae White, Christopher Williams, Christopher Wool, …among others

Please feel free to contact Christine Nichols at Works on Paper, Inc. with any questions. Thank you for your very kind consideration and support of this special endeavor.

Additional cash contributions may be made by sending a check made out to the Jose Marin Family Fund to:
