RETURNS TO FORT MASON CENTER JAN. 17-20
SAN FRANCISCO For four days, San Francisco becomes home to 100 prestigious international galleries representing the works of more than 2,000 artists. The San Francisco International Art Exposition (SFIAE), held Jan. 17-20, 2003 at Fort Mason Center, showcases an eclectic collection of modern and contemporary artwork in a variety of artistic styles. The comprehensive exposition encompasses painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, sculpture, video, installation and mixed media. >From established artists such as Andy Warhol, David Hockney and Willem de Kooning to more cutting-edge artists, the San Francisco International Art Exposition offers something for casual viewers, serious collectors and everyone in between.
An opening night benefit will be hosted by the San Francisco Art Institute Thurs., January 16 from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. Patrons will be offered the opportunity to view SFIAE before it opens to the public. The festivities include hors-d’oeuvres as well as an open bar. Tickets to the exclusive 5 p.m. preview are $300 (Patron), $750 (Benefactor) or $1500 (Collector) per person. For the 7 p.m. preview, tickets are $175 per person. Proceeds from Opening Night will support the annual scholarship fund of the San Francisco Art Institute, the oldest art institution in San Francisco and the only independent, exclusively fine arts college in the country. The fifth annual San Francisco International Art Exposition, presented by Thomas Blackman Associates, will be held Jan. 17-20 in the Herbst and Festival Pavilions at Fort Mason Center. Hours are Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday and Monday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets are $12 for general admission; $10 for students, seniors and groups; and free for children 10 and under.
