Arts, food and crafts market for nourishment.
We are pleased to invite you to Souls for Music, the summer edition of Arts of the Working Class’ art, food and music market in collaboration with Atelier Gardens, the former Berlin Union Film Ateliers (BUFA). The market will take place on July 3, from 4–10pm in the cultural hub for urban and ecological renovation in the Berlin district of Tempelhof.
After three first market editions during the pandemic, the street newspaper Arts of The Working Class is ready to continue its joint venture with Atelier Gardens. The collaboration will culminate in four programs throughout the year, which will be sided by several appointments orchestrated by artists, friends and allies of the two hosting partners.
The market format, which was already rehearsed last year, is thought of as a common space that questions and expands upon the traditional exhibition framework. The format of the market encompasses a variety of projects that go beyond the known scopes of street food and nutrition, and include the culinary as a form of caring as well as an included focus on publishing, craft, design, lectures and workshops.
The program of the upcoming months aims at defining a path where projects and practitioners will question and expand on “Loops of Power”, the overarching theme within Arts of the Working Class this year, by experimenting anti-capitalist strategies through collective performativity and space commonization.
While our society is soundtracked by the melodies of daily and often exploitative activities, music still represents a powerful tool of liberation and protest, choreographing self-expression and collective resistance. Co-curated with Positionen Magazin in the form of a street festival, Souls for Music is creating a stage of experimental vibrations and delicacies that transgress the understanding of street music. The market will be activated by several musical acts along the course of the day.
On the occasion of Souls for Music, Arts of the Working Class will launch its upcoming issue no.22 on Music and Propaganda.
