Princeton University’s Program in Visual Arts, part of the Lewis Center for the Arts, is seeking applicants for a distinguished filmmaker to join the tenured faculty beginning in the 2023–24 Academic Year to teach undergraduate level courses in filmmaking and production.
The Lewis Center is designed to put the creative and performing arts at the heart of the Princeton experience. This mission is based on the conviction that exposure to the arts helps each of us to make sense of our lives and the lives of our neighbors. We pursue this mission by bringing together a vibrantly diverse community of people with different backgrounds, experiences, perspectives, skills, and talents. The Lewis Center and Program in Visual Arts are committed to fostering an academic environment that acknowledges and encourages diversity and differences. The successful candidate will pursue academic excellence in diverse, multicultural, and inclusive settings.
The Program invites applications from filmmakers with an active presence and reputation in the field, undergraduate teaching experience, a familiarity with a wide range of artistic concepts and methods, and a demonstrated record of creative work as evidenced by screenings in cinema houses, festivals, museums, television, streaming or other related venues.
Strong candidates will have a demonstrated ability and commitment to engage productively with students at all skill levels, an eagerness to foster a vital role for film production within the context of a liberal arts university, and a willingness to engage and advance initiatives for the Visual Arts Program, the Lewis Center for the Arts, and Princeton University. The successful candidate will teach two classes per semester and work closely with the Director of the Visual Arts Program on all aspects of the study of filmmaking and its relationship to other modes of artistic production and broader humanistic studies at Princeton. Responsibilities will include curation of film series, advising junior and senior independent work, and mentoring students interested in film.
The candidate will join an established interdisciplinary art center whose faculty work broadly to encourage the creativity and growth of undergraduate students. For more information about the mission and scope of the program visit our website.
