There is a vacancy at the Art and Craft department for a full-time fixed-term position as professor/associate professor within the discipline of printmaking. The position is for a fixed term of six years, with the possibility of an additional six-year term. The position includes the artistic and educational responsibility for developing and running the discipline of print and drawing, with a focus on quality, renewal and critical reflection. This entails, among other things, being responsible for the overall academic coordination of the teaching and academic resources within the discipline.

The position’s mandate includes teaching, supervision, artistic research, administration and responsibility for financial matters. The successful applicant is expected to link their teaching to their own artistic and academic research. The educational programmes shall incorporate both the discipline’s history and current trends in contemporary art. The Art and Craft department shall explore and develop medium- and material-based art and participate in contemporary discussions on art. The successful applicant is expected to participate in the academic discourse on art and help raise the profile of the professional activities within the discipline both nationally and internationally.

The discipline of printmaking
The discipline of printmaking involves a wide range of both traditional and new, digital solutions, such as printing, VR/3D, photography, digital/traditional drawing, collage, watercolour, and video, as well as all the hybrid combinations that arise in this expanded field. In this way, the name “printmaking” allows for a wider understanding of the discipline, where all the various components are treated as equals.

With its subdivisions into publishing, photography, drawing and artist’s books, the field of printmaking focuses on the importance of gathering this wide-ranging, multifarious spectrum into a melting pot of possibilities that encourage new approaches. Printmaking therefore manifests itself in different forms and expressions within the expanded field of graphic art. The discipline engages in a close dialogue with the actors in today’s contemporary art scene. Through such activities, the Oslo National Academy of the Arts seeks to be a vital knowledge bank for, and an active contributor to, the Norwegian and international community within the field.

Tasks
The position involves artistic and educational responsibility and developing the discipline within a collegial discourse, with a focus on quality, renewal and reflection, as well as strengthening the discipline’s grounding within the Art and Craft department. An emphasis will therefore be placed on developing synergies and collaborations with the other academic communities at the department.

The work involves coordinating the disciplinary resources within the field, in addition to teaching, supervision and artistic or academic research. The successful applicant is expected to participate in the academic discourse on art and help raise the profile of the professional activities within the discipline both nationally and internationally.

The position’s mandate includes teaching, supervision, artistic research, administration and some responsibility for financial matters. The successful applicant is expected to link their teaching to their own artistic and academic research.

The immediate supervisor for the position is the dean, who has both the academic and the administrative responsibility for the department.

Required qualifications
Applicants must be functionally proficient in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language (Swedish or Danish), both written and orally, or else be willing to gain such proficiency within a short span of time. Applicants must master English, both written and orally.

The general competence requirements are per the Regulations Concerning Appointment and Promotion to Teaching and Research Posts, in particular section 1.2. A successful applicant who does not meet the requirements concerning formal pedagogical education, but who has nonetheless documented relevant practical-pedagogical competence in the form of teaching and supervision, will be mandated to follow a course that affords basic pedagogical competence at the university college level.
