“The new world that we need to build together requires emotional honesty, trust, and a deep commitment to listening.” —Lyra Pramuk
From July 21–23, ECHOES 2023 will transform Haus der Kunst München with a live program investigating distributed and artificial forms of intelligence. As a continuation of its inaugural 2022 edition that explored embodied memories, this live exhibition seeks to go beyond the body. ECHOES probes the question what “liveness” signifies today.
The works by DEBIT, Sarah Friend, Luis Garay, Slim Soledad & Nikolas Brummer, Angela Goh, Lyra Pramuk, Tiara Roxanne, Kianí del Valle & Hamill Industries echo Haus der Kunst’s broader theme of the voice through movement, music, and the launch of the newly commissioned Mirror Piece NFT – a performance of exchange orchestrated by Sarah Friend.
Among the performances, Body Loss by Angela Goh stands out as a testament to the artist’s exploration of the human body’s limits through dance. The performance is accompanied by her echoing voice, adding a sonic dimension to her physical exploration. In a similar vein, Lyra Pramuk’s intricate choral composition merges natural and synthetic voices into multilayered soundscapes, carving out an experimental space for new forms of vocal interaction. AI Transmutations by Kianí del Valle & Hamill Industries challenges the conventional boundaries of communication. Utilizing machine learning to multiply the human body, this spectacular performance transcends human means of communication. The program further includes the intimate a cappella performance Love is in the Mouth by Luis Garay, Slim Soledad & Nikolas Brummer, DEBIT’s concert The Long Count, which reinvents the sounds of Mayan wind instruments through machine learning, and Tiara Roxanne’s workshop (De)Coding the Body, which examines AI through the prism of Indigenous knowledges.
Each artist offers a distinctive voice on artificial and non-human intelligence, taking the audience on an experience that will resonate long after the event ends.
