Organized by Fiera Milano and directed by Nicola Ricciardi, miart—Milan’s international modern and contemporary art fair—is the exhibition that presents the largest chronological offer of artworks in Italy. The 28th edition takes place in the classic pavilions of Allianz MiCo from April 12 to 14, 2024, with VIP preview on April 11. Direct link to the application can be found here.

miart has enjoyed steady growth over the last three years, with an increase in the attendance of international VIPs including global collectors, art consultants, curators and directors of private foundations and public museums, as well as an increase in the participation of the Italian and international press that provided widespread media coverage.

With 169 galleries from 27 countries, and a 40% increase in international exhibitors, miart 2023 was among the most diverse edition yet, presenting masterpieces from the early twentieth century—from Balla to de Chirico, from Schiele to Picabia—together with new productions by the most influential contemporary artists, such as David Hockney and Francis Alys, Rosa Barba and Monica Bonvicini.

The upward trajectory is expected to continue in 2024 thanks to the favorable time frame of the fair, which ends just before the opening of both Milan’s Salone del Mobile and the 60th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, suggesting continuity in the presence of key art professionals between the events.

Borrowing the words from a song by Franco Battiato, an artist of restless curiosity and feverish imagination, miart 2024 is titled No Time No Space, emphasizing the desire to further expand the fair’s borders both temporally and geographically, thanks to a new curated section called Portal and a series of ongoing and expanding collaborations aimed at disseminating art into the streets and institutions of Milan.

Curated by Julieta González and Abaseh Mirvali, Portal is a deliberately anachronistic section, which nevertheless strips the term of its derogatory hue to restore it to its legitimate meaning—that of scrambling timelines to speak of our time, capturing in the tumultuous and ever-changing flow of the present what is stable and lasting in art. The section brings together ten galleries presenting universes and artistic practices that are only apparently very distant: a window to look at the present through parallel dimensions and unconventional prisms.

Other sections include Established, the main section of miart, which hosts a selection that ranges from Master of Modern Art to works created specifically for the fair, and Emergent, the section curated by Attilia Fattori Franchini that welcomes galleries focusing on the promotion of more recent generations of artists.

As per tradition, miart will also coordinate the 2024 Milano Art Week, an intense program of special events and grand openings occurring during the week of the fair that involve all the major public and private institutions in town, including Fondazione Pirelli HangarBicocca, Fondazione Prada, Triennale Milano, Palazzo Reale, Museo del Novecento, PAC—Padiglione d’Arte Contemporanea, GAM—Galleria d’Arte Moderna, and more. Organized in partnership with the City of Milan, the Art Week is yet another piece in the puzzle that is transforming the city into an essential cultural destination.

Please visit miart’s website here for an overview of the 2024 edition with further information about the sections, the Selection Committee, the curatorial team, and the application process.

Please be advised that applications must be submitted online by Friday, October 27, 2023. If you have questions or doubts on and around the application process, please contact: miart [at] fieramilano.it
