Being aware of how politics are enacted through architecture and urbanism, Columbia GSAPP asserts its commitment to critically anticipate change. AFFIRMATIONS, the planetary coalition of activists/designers/thinkers that the school launched in September 2023, will interrogate and rethink the built environment at multiple scales—at the intersection of urgencies, violences, and possible reworldings.
This spring, AFFIRMATIONS will include the participation of Zoë Crossland, Keller Easterling, Jack Halberstam, Samia Henni, Andrés Jaque, Laura Kurgan, Reinhold Martin, Rob Nixon, Bart-Jan Polman, Elizabeth Povinelli, Paul B. Preciado, Filipa Ramos, C. Riley Snorton, Eyal Weizman, David Wengrow, and others, who will be in conversation with the AFFIRMATIONS cohort of respondents.
The school will also engage in conversations with Dwight Carey, Peter Galison, Bijoy Jain, Erik Langdalen, Svein Lund, Jonas Norsted, Hilary Sample, Joe Schaffers, Madelon Vriesendorp, and Hamza Walker through various formats. “The Library is Open” series will continue its second season with critical discussions on recently published works by Emanuel Admassu, Anita Bateman, Office Party, Markus Miessen, and Najha Zigbi-Johnson.
Please visit GSAPP’s event calendar (times noted in Eastern Time) for the full calendar and to learn more about each event.
