As the only comprehensive art museum within the state of Kansas, the Spencer Museum of Art sustains a diverse collection of more than 40,000 works of art. The Spencer strives to encourage interdisciplinary exploration at the intersection of art, ideas, and experience by serving diverse communities of learners at the University of Kansas, in the city of Lawrence, and beyond. On average, the Spencer Museum receives more than 300 visitors every day and more than 100,000 visitors annually. The Spencer’s primary community is the University of Kansas, a major public research and teaching institution with approximately 28,000 students and 2,600 faculty members. The Museum provides comprehensive educational and public outreach programming to thousands of University and K–12 students annually.
