HKUST Strategic Hiring 2023: faculty positions. Celebrating its 30th birthday during the most challenging time in the recent decade with mounting global issues of the coronavirus, economic downturn and climate change, the University sees a growing demand for pressing solutions to respond to these emerging challenges. To address these and other global issues, it is essential to bring to the University a diversity of talents and open up new horizons in high-impact areas. One of the objectives in HKUST Strategic Plan 2021-2028 (https://strategicplan.hkust.edu.hk/) is to be “A University of TALENTS”, extending our global reservoir of minds and abilities by looking beyond conventional academic disciplines and being open to the recruitment and nurturing of more diverse areas of strength among students, faculty and staff. Concurring with this objective, the University will conduct a strategic hiring campaign aimed at advancing the University’s academic strengths in selected cross-disciplinary areas that are strategically important to HKUST’s future development.
We seek renowned scholars, academics, leaders or potential leaders with expertise in Art Tech and Humanities.
The Art Tech focus area looks for candidates working on art creation and visual communication with cutting-edge technologies. Candidates working on broad topics on Generative AI for Art or specifically on topics like AR/VR Art with Metaverse, Robotics Art, Data Art, Computer Graphics and 3D animation, AI-generated performance/visual arts, and other forms of computational arts are welcome to apply.
In the Humanities, we encourage applications from senior scholars in areas including, but not limited to, Digital Humanities, Chinese and Comparative Philosophy, Ancient Chinese History, and Cantonese Linguistics. Researchers focusing on health and society, governance, and computational and experimental approaches to social science topics are also encouraged to apply.
Applications are invited for a number of senior substantiation-track faculty positions at the rank of Professor or Associate Professor in the above areas. Joint appointments in more than one academic department in the University are encouraged. Successful candidates should have a PhD degree in related fields and preferably have demonstrated a solid research track record in the above areas. Apart from having an exceptional research record, successful candidates should demonstrate strong potential as excellent teachers and advisors. Good ability in communicating research problems well beyond one’s own research area, especially with organizations and industry partners, is considered a plus.
Appointments can start as early as on 1 June 2023. Salary is highly competitive and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include medical/dental benefits, annual leave, and housing benefits where applicable.
