The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology invites applications for multiple faculty positions at all ranks (Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor) in Computational Media and Arts (CMA) for its new campus in Guangzhou (GZ). Currently offering MPhil and PhD degrees, the CMA focuses on computational media and arts using emerging technologies. It promotes the interplay of media arts, technology, and research and exploits the most advanced technologies for creativity with a social impact.

Composed of faculty members and students from diverse backgrounds, such as media arts, computing, engineering, CMA is currently recruiting energetic, open-minded, creative, and hands-on students who would like to thrive pursuing high impact computational media and art-related research in an interdisciplinary academic environment. 

We welcome candidates from a wide range of backgrounds related to computational media and arts, and those whose research and practice fall within the following areas are especially encouraged to apply: 

–Media Arts (interactive/sonic/music/robotic/generative/AI art)
–Critical media studies, media art history and theory
–Immersive media, cinematic, narrative and performative practices
–Augmented/virtual/mixed reality (VR, AR, XR)
–Critical gaming and Interactive media
–Computational design and generative fabrication
–Computer vision
–Art/science research practices

Recruitment criteria
Candidates from an arts background: should hold a PhD plus a notable exhibition history or portfolio with a sustained creative practice in a related area. Priority will be given to artists who are able to teach a range of skills, including digital and innovative approaches; showing an explicitly experiential, experimental and expansive outlook on media arts making; commanding a deep understanding and active practice in one or more areas in computational arts.

Candidates from a scholarly background: should hold a PhD and have demonstrated ability to pursue high-level research in areas related to computational media arts, including critical theory, cultural studies of technology, art history, curating, criticism, media arts preserving, etc.

Remuneration and benefits
HKUST(GZ) offers a highly competitive salary and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The tax rate in Hong Kong / Greater Bay Area is fixed at 15 percent providing further incentives to international academics to relocate to the area.  All research-track staff are granted a sizeable research grant upon joining, are given access to excellent research facilities and support. Furthermore, all staff get on campus-housing or a housing allowance as well as private health insurance for them and their family.
